Opportunities to shine at New Forest Academy of Dance

Performances at NFAD

Performance is at the heart of what we do at New Forest Academy of Dance. Whether it’s a relaxed in-class showing or a full-scale stage production, our students are given regular opportunities to share their progress, celebrate their creativity, and shine with confidence.

We believe that performing builds not only stage presence and dance technique, but also resilience, teamwork and self-belief — all essential life skills for dancers of every age and experience level.

Watching Weeks

Each year, we invite families into the studio to watch their child in class. These Watching Weeks offer a chance to see how students are progressing and to experience the warm, supportive atmosphere of NFAD classes. It’s a relaxed and enjoyable way to celebrate your child’s development.

For our Musical Theatre students, Watching Week takes the form of a short, informal performance of selected scenes and songs — giving parents a glimpse of their dramatic and vocal progress as well as their dancing.

Whole-School Shows (Every Two Years)

Every other year, the entire NFAD community comes together for a professionally staged whole-school show, involving students across all age groups and dance styles. These shows are held in a local theatre to give students the experience of performing on a real stage, and bring together choreography, costumes, lighting and sound to create a vibrant, joyful celebration of our dancers' hard work.

From early years performers to adult dancers, every student is given their moment to shine on stage. The result is a rich and memorable experience that builds lasting confidence and showcases the unique spirit of our school.

Musical in a Week (Summer School)

Our Musical in a Week programme is a highlight of the summer calendar. Open to school-age children and teens, this week-long intensive brings together singing, dancing, crafting and acting in a fast-paced, high-energy production of a popular musical.

In just five days, students rehearse and perform a full show, working with professional teachers in a fun and focused environment. It’s a brilliant opportunity for young performers to build skills, make new friends and take to the stage with pride.

Musical Theatre Production (Every Two Years)

In alternate years to our whole-school show, our Musical Theatre students take part in a dedicated staged production. These performances are tailored to the group’s age and experience, giving them a platform to apply their vocal, acting and dance training in a fully realised production. From ensemble numbers to solo roles, every student plays a vital part in bringing the story to life.

Community Performances

NFAD students regularly appear at local community events, giving them valuable performance experience and a chance to connect with audiences beyond the studio. Past appearances have included:

  • Lymington Seafood Festival

  • New Forest Show

  • Lymington Carnival and Fête

  • Nursing homes and care centres

  • Lymington Community Centre live screenings

These informal performances are a fun and rewarding way to build stage confidence and share the joy of dance with the wider community.
